Chapter One

The Pact

The man reached into his pocket and pulled out the most unusual coin. The coin was imprinted with the face of an angel. The opposite side of the coin was the same angel crying with a look of fear and horror on its face. The face was frightening which caused Torrin to drop the coin. The man picked it up .

"Do not fear it. It only represents good and evil, which is something that all men possess within them," the man said.

"Which side is the stronger? Which side will prevail? Asked Torrin

"The one you feed." The man pickup the coin and placed it back in Torrin’s hand. "Now, toss it into the well and go home to your wife and child.." Torrin tossed the coin into the well. This time he could hear the coin hit the ground and ring echoes of the angel crying back to him. His heart sank when he realized he’d just made a pact with the devil and there is no turning back...He couldn’t speak. He started to step away as he stared into the man’s deep red eyes.

"What do you fear Torrin? The man asked.

"I fear that I have transgressed upon my neighbors and their souls are doomed to hell."

"It was always to be so; your wants are greater than your needs, and thus your sacrifices are selfish."

"What have I done? Oh God, what have I done?" cried Torrin.
